"I did Communication Design for my Associates Degree in FIT in New York and that’s how I got into Graphic Design. I was going to do Advertising Design and decided that as much as I loved New York, I didn’t want to live there anymore. I wanted to be able to get into a car and just be around nature, and I chose California. San Diego State had one of the better graphic design programs so I pursued that and just graduated in May!Growing up, I always wanted to be a professional dancer in New York City and it wasn’t until later I decided I wanted to do graphic design. I went to FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) – and I had always liked clothes but wasn’t necessarily a fashion person. It was a completely different world, and it was really cool in some ways and I loved it but I also didn’t know much about it. It was a very competitive and what felt like a snooty industry. I’ve always had a dream to work for a fashion magazine and I had an internship at the time where I felt just like the Devil Wears Prada intern. I’m very competitive and driven, but it just wasn’t the right fit for me when it felt like people had to step over one another to get ahead. I believe people can get what they want in a positive way. That is when the transition to California began and I’ve just been a happier person. Since graduating, I have a full time job at the internship I had, and since I was so used to being busy all the time, I just thought – what can I do?I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and I saw a fact stating women are the majority of consumers and only 3% of women are holding those creative director roles. It’s interesting to see how skewed that number is, and to me, us women are great designers, but there just seems to be a man in charge in one way, shape, or form.I’m such a feminist and I was thinking what could I do to make an impact? At the very least, I thought let’s bring together all of these women and figure it out together. I love meeting new people and networking, so I wanted to create Lady Killas as a very welcoming space, and become a platform where everyone makes friends with everyone, and we just help each other out whether it’s a new job opportunity or connection! I eventually would love to work with different organizations and charity work, raise awareness and educate, and have different speakers who will leave an impact!”

She told us all about how she just started Lady Killas and how we should check out her next meet up, so of course we did! It was the following week and we got to hang out with amazing creatives who are supporting Courtney's movement with Lady Killas! We had a blast! She hosts engaging events that feature talented women, gathers like-minded individuals, and educates goers on embracing their feminism and creativity. Their next event is an Art Night happening September 15th for carbs, crafts, and conversation! It's definitely an event you won't want to miss - check out the details below![vc_row][vc_column][polar_image action="action-link" image="2231" image_link="https://www.facebook.com/events/1632019970461414/"][/vc_column][/vc_row]
