“I’ve been shifting gears with my sound from pop to more indie rock and just wanted to change up my vibe a bit. Aside from music, I also have my own company doing social and digital media with my business partner. It’s been a crazy ride. Music has always been a part of my life and I was in my first band when I was 15. So it escalated from there, and I ended up in New York, because I felt like it was the right move for me. These new songs I’m about to release are for ME, it’s been a journey and it’s been about figuring out what I want and really finding my voice.I feel like this is the most me and it’s been me figuring out my place for the past three years with my writing. With being creative, it's just figuring out how to do it and the process is just so crazy that I’ve gone through these different waves of writing and have finally figured out how the best way for me to write is. It was also about me changing my mindset about music and not giving a fuck. Because you see everyone else doing ‘what’s in’ and I don’t give a shit about fitting in anymore, and I just want to do what I want to do and what feels natural to me, going into the studio and putting in the sounds I like. That was the biggest stress on me, was having those expectations and doing what I thought people like. But now, I’m here.I feel like when you’re doing your own thing, it’s your own thing and no one else is going to do the work for you. I feel so much more motivated doing it for myself and doing my work inspires me to do more music. They’re both a part of me and everything that I do in my social space has helped me become the musician I am. It’s like investing in yourself – especially with music because you want to put your best self out there with the quality of the music, studio time, photography, and all of it.There have been a lot of changes in the past year, I started my business on my own in January and just recently decided to partner with somebody. I just didn’t want to build someone else’s dream, I wanted to build my own. I love the balance of music and having my own business because it works hand in hand. It’s been quite the journey, and you never really know what’s going to happen. As long as you keep on moving forward, things will happen. I’ve always been goal oriented, but I never really planned how it’s going to happen because it’s so interesting to see how you reach that goal and it may not be what you expect.I’ve always been better on piano, but interestingly enough I write all of my songs to guitar. No one really realizes that becoming a musician takes a lot of work and it’s a process that not a lot of people see – and that goes with any art, that people don’t see the work you put in investing in certain things, to get that quality sound or to get those professional photos taken and really doing your own marketing essentially. Being an artist too, I feel like you’re never fully satisfied with your work, but at the same time that’s what keeps your motivated and keeps you moving to be better. I feel like once I get to that point, there’s another level I need to reach, so it’s this never-ending process. We’re always evolving and changing, and it’s so important to recognize that.Like the music I had in the past versus the music I’m putting out now, I’m a completely different person. I changed the direction I wanted to go in the music industry because I like being independent and back then, my music was more mainstream, which is not the industry I want to be in. I want to make good music, put it out there, and have people connect with it in a real way.”
